I participated last night in facilitated conversation on spirituality (a word I find overused and not very useful, but a useful conversation none the less…). While introducing myself, I said I am agnostic, but the...

I pointedly avoid political content on this site. But the political environment of any era is fodder for a student of human motivation. And in today’s increasingly inflammatory scene, considering the drivers behind...

I’m finishing Huston Smith’s “Fundamental Truths,” (see a recent post), and see now that it is essentialy an apology for intelligent design or something similar. I will comment in full after I finish, but...

My last post reminded me of something I stumbled on last year. A group of villagers on the island of Tanna in the South Pacific believe Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is a divine being. This Prince Philip Movement is only...

A friend of mine told me recently that her teenaged son has suddenly begun asking about churches. Since she has raised him and his brother areligiously, it surprised her. He hasn’t yet asked to begin church-going but...

People seek meaning through belief, a major reason why they cling so tenaciously to belief, even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

In Fátima, Portugal, two days now, and thinking again about religion and humanity. Indeed, one cannot help but do so here, where the entire town has evolved into a living irony, an immersive experience to the selling of...

So last Sunday, my neighbor sat down with his morning paper and never got up. They found him hours later, but from his new perspective, it could have been light years. He had been a neighborhood fixture, one of those guys that...

“Other animals do not need a purpose in life. A contradiction to itself, the human animal cannot do without one. Can we not think of the aim of life as being simply to see?” (–John Gray, in “Straw Dogs:...
Read MoreYou can use this page to explore all my posts. You can search in three ways: (1) Click the Category that interests you; (2) Use the Search Box that appears below the list of Categories; or (3) Use the Archives below the Search Box.
Frankly, if you are looking for something specific, the Search Box is your better bet. Appropriate Categories are hard to develop, and they are sometimes arbitrary and inconsistent. Using Search, you can query on any term you choose.
Unfortunately, when you click on a specific post, it will bounce you to a different page to read it. You will have to use your browser's Back feature or the upper Menu to return here. Sorry, it's a limitation of this Wordpress theme.
Also, this theme does not truncate posts when you use the Search box. The result can be a long string of full length posts, which is cumbersome and confusing. I'll continue trying to resolve this issue.
Thanks for your interest.
